| WYSIWYG is What You Get |
 |
Posted on 4/22/2008 9:17:26 PM by Dan. - Updates
It has long been asked for, long promised, and long bemoaned, but it's finally here; the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor is now installed and running. That means no more noodling around with HTML, no more rejected stories because the spacing didn't end up right, and best of all, no more GUESSING at what it's going to look like, because WYSIWYG!

| On a Personal Note... |

So, I haven't been around for a little while and some of you might have missed me and some might not have. But here's the low down on my recent absence.
On Thursday, March 15, my husband and I were T-boned on the way to work. I don't want to get too much into it but the basics are that I'm fine, my husband is fine, the other driver is fine, our car is not fine. It's totaled.
And then I got a stomach flu.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back and was away for a legit reason. Go back to what ever you were doing.

| New Accounts Are Disabled |
 |
Posted on 3/14/2006 7:06:49 AM by Elisabeth. - Updates
New accounts have been disabled until such time that we can validate email addresses at sign up. This is a large security issue that I want to have completed before we accept any more new members.
I recomend that you keep your email address in your profile up to date. If I ever need to email you, which I do more than you would think, and I get a returned email, I invalidate your account. The only way to reactivate the account would be to email me from that email address and I will reinstate the account.

Posted on 2/20/2006 8:00:00 AM by Elisabeth. - Updates
FW has created and are implementing more strict rules for the forum so that they are impartial and fair to everyone. Please read carefully and ask any questions as soon as you have them. From this point forward you will start to receive warnings by breaking these rules. Warnings will be issued by either the forum moderators or myself.
• No images. There are not images allowed in either signature or forum post. Avatars are obviously an exception.
• No swearing. This includes vulgar slang terms.
• No plagiarized content. This means no material that was not written by the author regardless if the copyright of the material has lapsed. This includes but is not limited to: Quotes, lyrics, etc. Quotes with proper credit are allowed in signatures only.
• No links. There are absolutely no links allowed in forum posts. This includes links you can click on and links that you would have to copy and paste. Signatures are fine and links in the advertisement section. The directory will be back online soon. Add your links there.
• Stay on topic. Posts that are off topic/irrelevant will be deleted.
• Post threads in proper category. Threads found in the wrong category will be moved with out notifying the author.
• No flaming. Flaming is defined as “to send an angry, hostile, or abusive electronic message to or about.” But this also includes badgering someone about a difference of opinion.
• No run away threads. Basically, if a certain few are posting so frequently that no one else can get an opinion posted before their response is outdated; this is a run away thread. A short period of time is defined here as under half an hour.
• No Stories in the Forum. Unless in the Writers's Clinic.

| Fantasy Writers Newsletter |
 |
Posted on 1/10/2006 8:00:00 PM by Elisabeth. - Updates
We are going to start sending out our monthy newsletter. I have chosen to use the service offered through Bravenet. This is a double opt in newletter program so you will have to confirm your subscription from the email submitted. You can leave at anytime. I anticipate that the newsletter will be sent out the first of every month.
Once you have confirmed, the Bravenet site does not confirm that you have confirmed. But once you click on the link that they email to you, your subscription is verified.

| Updates and Shenanigans |
 |
Posted on 1/9/2006 8:52:26 PM by Elisabeth. - Updates
I humbly request that I receive no more private messages about the return of the forums. As of yet, I do not have an estimated time of completion. There were a lot of functionality issues that needed to be completed and until the forums are functioning the way that I like them, they will continue to be on hiatus.
I recommend that you spend your spare time working on your stories and peer reviewing your fellow member’s submitted work. The other bells and whistles are nice but it does boil down to the fact that I created this site for peer review.

| New Affiliates |
 |
Posted on 6/22/2004 8:00:00 AM by Elisabeth. - Updates
Fantasy-Writers.org has decided to start an affiliate program and would like to introduce our first three affiliates in the program.
Fantasy-Fan.org: A fantasy based website that provides information about new novels, movies, comics, and much more.
PurrsiaThunder.net: A very thorough ThunderCats fan site with original Fan Fiction and Fan Art.
FantasyFanatic.net: A fellow writing community for fantasy writers.
These affiliates will have their banner ad displaying on our site in rotation with the link exchange banner currently running. In return, our banner ad will be displayed on their page. If you would like to become an affiliate and have a fantasy based website, please email Elisabeth or, if you are a member, PM her.
